Beaches

Sandy beaches like the one pictured at left are commonplace in Sand Point on Popof Island and on neighboring islands.  This feature makes the Shumagin Islands rather unique in Alaska as much of the state’s coastline is rocky.

Sand Dollar and Salmon Ranch beaches are within walking / driving distance of Sand Point.  Beaches along Red Cove, also on Popof Island, are located several miles off the island’s road system and accessible only by four wheeler, or boat.

Beaches on neighboring islands can be accessed either by boat, or plane.  A Bush pilot can be hired through one of the area lodges, several of which offer guided bear hunting trips.
