Sand Point Commercial Salmon Fishery Announcement # 02 For Emergency Order #4-FS-M-SP-02-12

The Southeastern District Mainland Section of the Southeastern District will open to commercial salmon fishing for 48 hours from noon Saturday, June 16 until noon Monday, June 18, 2012. Fishermen are reminded that only set gillnet gear may be used in the Southeastern District Mainland prior to July 11.

All closed waters in the above locations will be as described in the regulation book or as adjusted by emergency order.
Statistical charts and harvest strategies are available at the Sand Point, Cold Bay, and Port Moller Fish and Game offices. Commercial salmon fishing regulations, commercial harvest, escapement, and news releases can be found on the ADF&G website at: http://www.adfg.alaska.gov/index.cfm?adfg=commercialbyareaakpeninsula.salmon.

Salmon fishery announcements will be broadcast on VHF channels 6 and 73 daily at 9:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. and may also be obtained from ADF&G in Sand Point at 383-2334 (383-ADFG).

Position: Administrative Assistant

Hours: 4 hours per day for approximately 3 months

Salary: $14.97/hr (Range 16, Step A)

Duties:

This position works under the supervision of the finance officer and the city clerk. Duties include but are not limited to: filing, word processing and general office duties as assigned by the city office staff.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Computer skills with recent knowledge of Microsoft word and excel
  • Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy
  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs

ALASKA STATE COUNCIL ON THE ARTS HOLDS ANNUAL COUNCIL MEETING

The Alaska State Council on the Arts will be holding their annual council meeting on Friday and Saturday, June 22-23, 2012. The meeting is open to the public and will be held at the Alaska State Council on the Arts, 161 Klevin Street, Suite 102, Anchorage, Alaska.

In addition to other business, the Council will award annual grants to Alaska’s arts and cultural institutions for the fiscal year 2012-2013.

The council will meet according to the following schedule:

Alaska Earth Sciences is currently recruiting for the position of Core Cutter to work in a remote camp located in the vicinity of Balboa Bay. Duration will be approximately June 6–September 2012 (weather dependent). Starting pay will be $22.50 per hour.

Core Cutter Duties may include:

  • Perform daily cutting and sampling of drill core.
  • Organize core boxes.
  • Prepare samples for shipping and analysis.
  • Perform photo documentation of drill core.
  • Assist in drill pad construction and demolition/reclamation.
  • Assist with general camp duties.

Qualifications:

  • Enthusiasm and a  pro-active attitude.
  • Safety awareness and the ability to recognize and report safety concerns.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with others in challenging situations and remote locations.
  • Experience operating core cutting saws is a plus.
  • Carpentry experience is desirable.
  • Firearms proficiency.
  • Ability to carry a 45lb back pack a distance of 2 miles in 45 minutes and the ability t0 lift and carry 50lbs repeatedly throughout the course of the day.
  • Pre-employment drug screen.
