The City of Sand Point is accepting applications for the following full-time, permanent position:

 

POSITION: Water & Wastewater Operator

 

SALARY: D.O.E

 

DEADLINE: Open until filled

General Position Summary and Responsibilities

 

Under the direction of the Water & Sewer Director & Public Works Director, the Water/Sewer Operator assumes full responsibility and authority of the city-owned water and wastewater systems – this includes the planning, coordinating and implementation of all activities of the water and wastewater programs and infrastructure. In addition, this position has primary responsibility for all repair and maintenance needs of the city water and wastewater infrastructure.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

 

  1. Oversees the required testing to ensure safe drinking water for the community.

 

  1. Insures the proper backwash of filters and insures maintenance of other related equipment in the water and wastewater plant as required.

 

  1. Maintains logs, reports and records of the water and wastewater treatment operations.

 

  1. Assists and oversees that pipes, lines, pumps, filters, hypochlorinators, meters and other related equipment associated with the operations of the water and wastewater treatment facilities are in accurate operable condition.

 

  1. Insures the submission of required water samples to a test laboratory as required by the Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC).

 

  1. Is knowledgeable of and adheres to the Occupational Safety and Health Agency (OSHA) regulations, practices and procedures as they pertain to water and wastewater operations.

 

  1. Assists in the public education on water consumption (excessive) and related water and wastewater issues.

8. Assists with developing departmental plans, goals and objectives.

 

9. Assists the Public Works Department as required.

 

10. Works independently when appropriate and/or required to do so.

 

11. Responds to routine and/or emergency calls for assistance from the Mayor, City Administrator, Public Works Director, citizens and others.

 

12. Establishes and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with other employees, external agencies, and the public.

 

13. Performs other duties as assigned by the Mayor, City Administrator or Public Works Director.

14. This position may require overtime hours. Department heads may schedule overtime or extra shifts when necessary. Employee may not work overtime without the prior approval of their supervisor.

15. Basic computer skills.

16. Must be able to lift 70 lbs.

Knowledge, Skills and Qualifications

 

  1. High school diploma or equivalent.
  2. In employee first year, must travel and attend training for Water Distribution Provisional required by State of Alaska, DEC, to become an operator, Alaska Certified in Water/Wastewater. Each and every year, travel & training is required.

 

  1. Mathematical ability to perform required testing.
  2. Knowledge of pumps and meters.

 

  1. Valid Alaska Drivers License and good driving record.
  2. Oral and written communications skills.

 

  1. Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy

Preferred

1. First aide and CPR training w/certification

City of Sand Point: Bingo Notice – New Pricing

Dear Bingo Players,

Alaska state law requires bingo games to break even. For the past year, we have not sold enough packets and sheets to match the prizes on our schedule of games. We regret to inform you that we must raise prizes to comply with gaming laws. If we continue our current level of loss, we will not be able to resume bingo any longer.

To operate bingo we have come up with a new price structure. The prices of Black out and Early Bird sheets will stay the same. The Birthday Club will not change. If we our ability to keep Bingo open, we will continue to have Special Bingo nights from time to time. The new prices will come into effect Sunday, January 19, 2013.

The new pricing is as follows:
Full Packet $30 New
Half-Packet $15 New
Game 6 Sheet $2 New
Early Bird Sheet $2 New
Single Sheets $2 New
Blackout Sheet $3 (one) Same
Blackout Sheet $5 (two) Same

This information comes from a phone conversation with Aaron Poetter, Area Management Biologist for Area M. NOTE: This is an unofficial & informal forecast announcement.

2013’s *Unofficial* Preliminary Forecast for South AK Peninsula’s Pink Salmon Run: 7.3 million fish total. An escapement goal of 1.6 million fish. Potential harvest total of 5.7 million fish.

The official projection will be posted online at ADF&G’s website for Area M.

For background, here are 2012’s Forecast & Actual totals.

2012 Forecast for South AK Peninsula’s Pink Salmon Run: Total Run = 4.2 million fish. Escapement = 1.9 million fish. Harvest Estimate = 2.3 million fish.

2012 Inseason Harvest for South AK Peninsula’s Pink Salmon Run: 487,399 fish
2012 Inseason Harvest for Area M’s Pink Salmon Run: 660,781 fish
